Day 12 // August 4

From Carol's Camera

REFLECTIONS in EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND:

Funny, I keep seeking out churches and cathedrals along the way to slip into with the hope of finding rest and stillness. But so many times doors have no handles, leaving me at a loss of how to get in. Doors are locked because the day has come to an end, or they have been turned into exhibit halls for this, that, and the other thing. It made me realize that finding God in the church isn't the only place I should be looking. So I am looking outward...to the faces of the people of the city streets, in the coffee shops, begging on the sidewalks... and I am seeking God out in villages where hospitality is oh so present... and I am looking to the land that breathes holiness, and to the struggling, wonder-filled kids in Starfire .

REFLECTIONS at the YORK MINSTER:

Look at what I found today when I spent time at the York Minster...

Handles to open a door and enter in...

Handles to open a door and enter in...

Candles to light and remember...

Signs to remind me to seek out light in case I can't always see it...

Doorways to spill light out into the darkness and columns to reflect and absorb it...

Shadows to cast patterns across stone showing that dark and light live side by side...

So, you see, if we look into the nooks and crannies, into the flame of the candle, into the shadows and doorways of light, into the messages on the signs that give directions,

God can be found...even inside the church.
